Gengetsu (Roppongi, Tokyo)

November 9, 2014 by admin Leave a Comment

A classy shochu joint not far from Midtown that specializes in all things Miyazaki Prefecture.

The shochu selection is very good, and the food options are delightful. There are lots of salads and chicken dishes to choose from, and if you plan to tie one on, then the two hour nomihoudai options are probably worth it. You can select from a number of food course options to go with all that booze (seven courses for ¥5,250; eight for ¥5,775; nine for ¥6,300). The all-you-can-drink plan lasts for two hours and is included in the price. Also, you can stay for an extra 30 minutes to finish your last drink.

Gengetsu has space for 26 split between counter seats and 2-4 seat tables. It’s possible to book the entire place for 20-50 people.

The chef has shown a willingness to adapt menu items for vegetarians, but as with most restaurants in Japan, strict vegetarians would be wise to fill their tummies before arriving.

This place is good for a date or dinner and drinks with a small group of friends. If you show up solo, then grab a seat at the bar (but call ahead no matter what if it’s before 10 PM on a Friday or Saturday night.
